Overnight bus to Hospet
Sleeper from Majestic, auto to Hampi bazaar at dawn. The site is best in that first hour.

The ruins, on a cycle
Virupaksha, Vittala and the stone chariot, then Hemakuta hill for sunset. A cycle costs almost nothing and covers it all.
Watch out
There is no shade between the monuments. Water and a hat are not optional.

Across the river, then back
Coracle across to Anegundi for a quieter morning, evening bus back.
Worth knowing
The river crossing stops at sunset. Do not get stranded on the far bank.

Go between November and February. Outside that it is genuinely too hot to walk the site.

Overnight bus, then walking between beaches instead of taking autos.

Left Saturday morning, back Sunday night. Barely enough, still worth it.

Bus both ways, hostel dorm, and two days of not talking to anyone.
